You can go to the Customer Store and activate a free trial on the customer you would like to try out.

The free trial will last 10 minutes. During this time, the customer will appear in any level you play and you can observe how their ability works (you can try out multiple special customers at once).

After the free trial ends, you won't be able to use the special customer again until you invite them.
